Chiquita's Big Day

Chiquita's Big Day

Follow a baby turtle’s exciting but perilous hatching from its nest. This picture book is sure to delight turtle fans of all ages with the story as told from the point of view of the hatchlings.

Chiquita, the baby turtle, is nestled warmly in her nest and dreaming of the day when she and her siblings will hatch and swim out to sea. She suddenly realizes that she will face predators even before she is born. With the help and encouragement of her siblings, Chiquita faces her fears and together they look forward to a great adventure.

The story, along with Nadia Ronquillo’s vibrant illustrations, bring the hatching action to life. The setting where the story takes place is San Francisco beach in Mexico, and the Sea of Cortez, which Jacques-Yves Cousteau (famous oceanographer and conservationist) referred to as “the aquarium of the world.”  Its beautiful landscape and sunset are beautifully depicted in this adorable book about new beginnings and family, in particular siblings.

The entire story is written in both English and Spanish to make the story available to as many children and parents as possible, to encourage bilingual education, and because of the author’s passion for conservation.
